I know this question was brought up a number of times, but here are my reasons for or against jap/aus spec s15.

For Jap:
more powerful / better turbo
Xenon headlights

For Aus:
Cheaper insurance
Can get one with sunroof(which I really want)
Can check real log books and see real history of the car

Stuff I don't care about:
different skirts/ wings / wipers etc. etc.

Anyway, what do you recon?

hmmm, not sure about immobilizer - it's something I'll need to get anyway in order to insure it....
And it has to be 3 point one....

YoungAndCool/Famous needs 3 point immobilizer, and their quotes are like twice as cheap

my insurance was the same either way, shannons ftw.
i went jdm, havent looked back, love the climate control n other toys
just my 2 cents

oh and the xenons get removed for compliance unless you can swap light in jap land and get the stockies mailed to you.

hmm.. i'm not too sure.. but in terms of compliancing? doesn't the car get complianced HERE in aus.. so say.. the car in japan gets shipped over as is.. then when it reaches here.. all the work is done here to compliance the car.. as the mechanics here would be more sure of the automotive laws of australia.

So you probably got jipped.. and your compliancer just kept the JDM xenons

to be honest, there aint a huge difference in the jdm and adm.. all the little tiny things u get with jdm really mean nothing in the end.

an S15 is an S15... if u mod the exhaust, injectors, ecu and turbo.. its same shit different smell.

only cool thing is.. the silvia badge u get with the jdm's.. which in my opinion are better than the 200sx badge u get with the adm, hahaha

I went JDM. Mainly because I couldn't find a good Aussie one with low k's and without awesome 18 inch chrome wheels.
The one downside was that my clutch was rubbish when the car got here which i didn't know before it got here. But there were a few extra goodies on the car which almost makes up for it.

the ecu is tuned on lower octane, so in a way u an say its 'de-tuned'

why not go aussie? the jdm ones are 1999

u can get 02 aussie ones... are u going to mod it? if u are... who cares if the jap one comes quicker.. after u mod, it will be as quick...

I have not been is this forum for long, but I could swear this thread keeps poping up asking the same crap again.

Jap spec- same shit more ponies, older model , can not get car loan on imports unless its a private loan $$$$$$$

Aus spec - newer model, tuned for these conditions.

Factory sunroofs in Jap Specs were available, but were an expensive option. Mine has one.

i went adm, 1 reason because in victoria it was legal for me to drive on my P's simple, jdm was over power to weight,
really its only a t28bb turbo, injectors and tuned ecu for 100ron fuel. yeah they got a few cool things, electronic climate control,
boost guage pillar and electronic mirrors, but who cares, look wise ADM no wiper it looks shit
power wise who gives a shit if ur planing on modifying no difference

I guess it might be easier to find jap spec one in good condition.

Insurance wise it would cost me 1400 to insure jap spec one for 23k, while Aus spec would cost me 1700 to insure it for 28k...
Currently I insure my 180sx with the same company for 13.5k and pay ~900 a year.

JDM if you want the street cred...

ADM if you don't want an ex thrasher with wound back K's

insurance is the same, and I spose the digital climate control looks a whole lot better but I wish I had of bought a ADM instead, 'cos everyone that I know who has bought a jap spec has bought a shitter

Hi,

had my ADM for just over a week. Completely stock. (70,000kms)

it has a helical LSD (GOOD) aint no open wheeler!

unfortunately the ecu is different and u cant swap it for a JDM, you need to change some other parts too.

It definately could do with the extra 40 odd KW that the JDM has but in reality just change the exhaust/extractors and play with the air system and ur gonna b doin better than a stock JDM.

In terms of insurance... who cares?!!! ur paying to insure $25k+ the difference is max $200

true that the ADM ones were owned by old rich ppl, i picked mine up from toorak, parked in a garage next to porche, bently and merc!

ADM has no xenon (easily changed)

definately peace of mind with the service records.

Stock HAS NO IMMOBILIZER OR ALARM!! u need to put one in, for a Australian regulation alarm its about $400 fitted.

Other than that its an S15...sex on wheels according to the last chick that was in it! ^^

got my ADM cause it was stock as a rock, full car history, owned by a old man also genuine 40k kms.
'02 model...

Spec R GT leather seats sun roof and some other goodies.

Everything a JDM has can be done to a ADM other then rear window wipers.

If you are really persistent the digi climate control can be done too just a lot of work.

With a few mods the adm opens up exactly like the JDM.

BB turbo is no difference at all it is minute basically it will spool up a little quicker and hold higher loads better probably with a longer life span.

Aus spec! The history of the car is far more important than the better turbo it comes with!
